• What is oral cancer?

Cancer in oral cavity and its surrounding strructure is called “oral cancer” It can occur in gum, tongue, lymphs or glands. It can also be metasized from leukemia or lymphs and can be seen in oral cavity. Oral cancer is 5% of all the cancer. Because it occurs in body part that can be easily recognized, early detection is prudent for treatment. Many factors that cause oral cancer are reported. Such as smoking, alcohols, chronic irritants, ill-fitting prosthesis, and sharp teeth causing chronic irritation  and genetic cause. Therefore regular check up and good oral hygiene is necessary to prevent oral cancer.

The mortality (percentage leading to death) of oral cancer is higher than liver cancer, brain cancer, kidney cancer, cervical cancer, or ovarian cancer.

 

27% of oral cancer patients did not smoke nor drink alcohols
